The President will then announce the results and turn the conduct of the meeting over to the new President and Board.

If there are only one candidate for each of the officer positions, and only three candidates for the at large members positions, they will be appointed to those positions at the March meeting without election. That result will be announced at the February meeting.

Happy New Year from the CDCA

We have had an amazing four years of growth and contribution. In April of 2015, all seven of the current Board members for the CDCA were elected without opposition. Their terms have now come to an end. According to our By Laws and corporate filings, we must hold an election in March.

As your President, it is my job to initiate the election process and begin the sequence with this announcement. You will find a link to download the description of the process and another to download the application to serve on the Board. I encourage all of you to consider running for either an officer position or an at large position on the seven-member Board of Directors. I will be stepping down as your President. I will still participate as a volunteer but 5 ½ years (including the six months of development) is a long enough time to serve for a geezer like me.

To serve on the Board you must be a member in good standing, paid in full and have attended at least two meetings of the Board. According to our By Laws I have appointed a three member Nominating Committee who will offer us a slate in February. They are members in good standing who have decided not to run for the Board. In addition, any standing member can decide to continue for the Board or run for another position on the Board but they must complete the application along with new candidates.

Serving on the CDCA has been a rich and rewarding position as a citizen of the Channel District. I hope you will apply and help us sustain the admirable position as a City recognized neighborhood association and continue the mission of the CDCA.

Once again Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing many of you on January 9, 2018 for our next meeting. Please pay close attention to the process and time line to qualify. The deadline to receive your application either in the mail or through email is January 22, 2018 by close of business at 5:00 pm. An incomplete application will not be considered.

Best and Warm wishes for 2018,

Vance Arnett
President

CDCA Election of Board Members

The election of Board members for the 2018-2020 Board of Directors for the Channel District Community Alliance will be conducted on March 13, 2018 at the Annual meeting of the CDCA. The process will proceed as follows.

Eligible members for position on the Board:

  • All candidates must be paid up members of the CDCA.
  • All candidates must have participate in at least two Membership meetings.
  • All candidates who have served on special or standing committees will be noted.
  • All candidates must meet all state requirements for holding an office with a not-for-profit charitable solicitation organization. See attached requirements.
  • All candidates must sign the non discrimination documentation for the Association.

Eligible members to Vote:

All members must be present to vote at the General Annual Meeting on March 13, 2018 and be certified by holding a place on the confirmed membership list. This will be certified by the Nominating committee at the meeting. No absentee votes will be allowed according to the approved By-Laws. A Member in good standing may present their sealed limited proxy vote to the Secretary who will transmit it to the nominating committee for certification and counting. Since the meetings often draw non-members, the voting will be done in writing on an official ballot that will be handed to the nominating committee once the vote is cast and sealed.

Structure of the Qualification and Election

Candidates for one of the Officer Positions will run for that particular position. If there is only one candidate that individual will be sent forward by the nominating committee as the sole candidate and be appointed at the March meeting. If there is more than one candidate for each officer, the election must be held. Each applicant for an office must declare which position they are applying for.

Candidates for Member at Large position will be selected by the top three with the most votes. If there are only three candidates they will automatically be appointed to serve. If there are four or more votes, the election process will determine the top three receiving the most votes.
